Working On It: A Story of Struggle, Love, and Donuts

An original play written by Nick Baker, directed by Gustavo Torres

stage manager

Working On It: A Story of Struggle, Love, and Donuts is a play inspired by legendary Hip-Hop producer J-Dilla's album Donuts. It blends elements of Hip-Hop theatre, devised work, and contemporary scenes to tell the story of a young man who finds himself hopeless and stuck, searching for a spark to ignite his life again. Working On It switches between portraying the world from the perspectives of Jonny in reality and Thee Emcee, his alter ego, in fantasy. In both worlds, whether it's vying for love or money or a way to climb the social ladder, Jonny's struggle is in looking for something real. When everybody he knows seems to be doing so much better, what can Jonny do to improve himself? We invite you to join us for a night full of fun, drama, musicality, and of course, donuts.
